On December 25th, the Dual Meet of the 17th “Agon Shu Kiriyama Cup” of Chinese Weiqi and Blitz Game came to a successful conclusion in Chengdu and Yuta Iyama, a Grade-9 player, won the champion. Zhao Bo, vice chairman of the China Association for International Friendly Contact (CAIFC), Wang Runan, chairman of Chinese Weiqi Association, and Matsumoto Teruomi, the consultant of Agon Shu, attended the competition and granted the awards.
Vice-chairman Zhao said that the “Agon Shu Kiriyama Cup” of Chinese Weiqi and Blitz Game has been held successfully for 17 years and is warmly welcomed by the Chinese and Japanese weiqi communities and young people. Now it has become a traditional branded event in the weiqi communities of both countries. He said that amity between people holds the key to sound relations between states while amity between hearts holds the key to sound relations between peoples. Maintaining Sino-Japanese folk and cultural exchanges and especially enhancing mutual understanding and exchanges between the young people of both countries are important to the maintenance of long-term development of bilateral relations.
The “Agon Shu Kiriyama Cup” was launched and exclusively sponsored by Seiyu Kiriyama, founder of the Agon Shu, in 1999, and was hosted by the CAIFC, the Chinese Chess Association, and the Japanese Chess Association, and co-hosted by CCTV, Mainichi Shimbun and Kyoto Shimbun. The competition is held in both China and Japan concurrently and the champions from both sides will run into a friendly duel match every year.
