From September 24th to 30th, Deng Wenqing, deputy secretary-general of the China Association for International Friendly Contact (CAIFC), led a delegation to Burma, Thailand, and Cambodia for a working visit. During their stay in Burma, the delegation had a working meeting with Tampadipa Institute and exchanged views on strengthening academic exchanges and cooperation; they met and had an informal discussion with U Khin Maung Thein, former Energy Minister, and U Aung Phone, former Vice Minister of Agriculture in Burma on issues like Sino-Burma friendly relations; they also met with U Ye Tun, Members of the House of Representatives and had an in-depth discussion on the folk exchanges and cooperation between Chinese and Burmese people. In Thailand, the delegation was invited to attend a seminar named “the Influence of Sino-Thai Strategic Relations on ASEAN and Asia”. Ning Fukui, Chinese Ambassador to Thailand, Braqin, director of Thai-Chinese Culture Promotion Council, and Chanchai, former Industry Minister of Thailand were present and delivered a speech. Deputy secretary-general Deng Wenqing delivered the keynote speech and 8 experts from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the National Defense College of Thailand, and the National Economic and Social Development Committee were present and made their remarks. The delegation also had a working meeting with the Thai-Chinese Culture and Economy Association and reached consensuses on promoting regional peace and development and on further promoting pragmatic cooperation between the two organizations. The delegation met with Madam Sudala, former Minister of Public Health in Thailand and advisory chairman of Thai-Chinese Culture Promotion Council. Madam Sudala appreciated the strong support that China has provided for the Sino-Thai cultural exchanges and she indicated that her organization is willing to strengthen cooperation with the CAIFC in multiple fields. In Cambodia, the delegation met with the Cambodian Minister of Justice and the former Chief of the General Staff of the Royal Army of Cambodia. The Cambodian side said that the Cambodia-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership plays an important role in maintaining regional stability in ASEAN and that the folk exchanges between the two countries are highly valued by all circle in Cambodia. They expressed their willingness to establish a cooperative relationship with the CAIFC in jointly promoting the development of friendly relations between Cambodia and China.
