The China Association for International Friendly Contact (CAIFC) successfully held the third China-U.S. exchanges of senior retired generals from October 26 to 29. The Chinese delegation to participate in the exchange was as follows: leader Li Qianyuan, former commander of the Lanzhou Military Region; and member Yu Zhenwu, former commander of Air Force, Zhu Qi, the former commander of Beijing Military Region, Zheng Shenxia, former dean of Academy of Military Sciences, and Zhao Guojun, former commander of East China Sea Fleet. The U.S. delegation was as follows: leader Admiral Owens, former Vice-Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; and member Admiral Wilhelm, former commander of U.S. Southern headquarters and Admiral Keating, former commander of the CINCPAC. Captain Randy ? Lawrence from military attaché＇s office of the U.S. Embassy in China, and Lieutenant Lammbo from the British Army took part in the activities as observers.
Yang Jiechi, Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Li Zhaoxing, Director of the NPC Foreign Affairs Committee and Chairman of the China Association for International Friendly Contact (CAIFC), respectively met with the U.S. representatives while in Beijing. Admiral Li Jinai, Commissioner of the Central Military Commission and Director of the General Political Department met with and gave a welcome banquet to representatives of both sides. In Hangzhou, representatives of the two sides visited the 28th Airman Division of Air Force. Zhao Hongzhu, Secretary of Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee and Director of Provincial People＇s Congress Standing Committee met with representatives of both parties and had a welcome banquet for them.
The event was sponsored by the China-US Exchange Foundation, which was founded by Mr. Dong Jianhua, and the Singapore Temasek Holdings. The first two exchanges were hosted respectively in Sanya in February, 2008 and the United States Hawaii in October, 2009.
