From May 15th to 17th, the 9th Annual Conference and Academic Symposium titled “History and Reality: Peaceful Development and Coexistence of China and Southeast Asia” organized by the China Association for International Friendly Contact (CAIFC), as well as the China Society for Southeast Asian Studies (CSSAS), Zhengzhou University, and the Chahar Institute, was held in Zhengzhou University.
The CSSAS is a national academic society that studies issues about Southeast Asia by pooling domestic experts in this field. As a member of the CSSAS, the CAIFC has maintained long-term cooperation with it. The new board of directors and leadership were elected at the annual conference: Li Haoyu, the secretary-general of the CAIFC was elected as vice president of the CSSAS; Wang Xiaowei, director of Center for Peace and Development Studies, was elected as executive director of the CSSAS; Jiang Kun, associate researcher of the CAIFC, was elected as a board director of the CSSAS. A total of 99 papers were collected at the academic symposium, at which 210 scholars from well-known universities and research institutions in 18 provinces had discussions around four subjects: the strategy of “One Belt One Road” and the Sino-Southeast Asia relations, the history and culture of Southeast Asia, the political diplomacy and social economy of Southeast Asia, the South China Sea issue and international relations.
