On June 15th, Xin Qi, vice chairman of the China Association for International Friendly Contact (CAIFC), met with Cameron Munter, president of the East-West Institute of the United States, and David Firestein, a senior vice president of the East-West Institute of the United States, in Beijing. They communicated with each other on hot issues such as the Sino-US relations and the Korean Peninsula situation. The two sides agreed that the historic meeting between Chairman Xi Jinping and President Trump at the Mar-a-Lago was a complete success and the smooth transition of the Sino-US relations has sent a positive signal to the world and the Asia-Pacific region. They also agreed that China and the United States should further communicate closely to respond to the escalation of tensions on the Korean peninsula and cooperate in a constructive way to tackle the challenges on the DPRK nuclear issue. Ren Shuangjie, deputy secretary-general of the CAIFC, was present at the meeting.
