On August 19th, Li Xiaohua, vice-chairman of the China Association for International Friendly Contact (CAIFC) met with a delegation led by Phnij, former Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand, honorary president of Thai-Chinese Culture and Economy Association and chairman of Thai-Chinese Culture Promotion Council, in Beijing. Vice-chairman Li spoke highly of the long-term commitment that Phnij makes to the development of Sino-Thai friendly relations and he indicated that the CAIFC is willing to establish cooperative relations with friendly organizations including Thai-Chinese Culture Promotion Council to make due contributions to further promoting cultural exchanges and enhancing mutual trust between the two peoples. Vice-chairman Li noted that Sino-Thai relations serve as a model for China to get along well with other ASEAN countries and play a positive role in maintaining regional peace and achieving mutual benefits. Phnij said that Thailand and China are as close as a family and that the Chinese government has always provided substantial selfless assistance to Thailand for a long period of time. He showed his deep appreciation for the CAIFC for having provided him with support and help and for its work for the Sino-Thai friendship when he served as the president of Thai-Chinese Culture and Economy Association.
Deng Wenqing, deputy secretary-general of the CAIFC, was present at the meeting.
