On July 5th, Deng Rong, vice chairman of China Association for International Friendly Contact (CAIFC), met with Mezentsev, secretary general of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), in Beijing. Vice chairman Deng welcomed Mezentsev’s coming to Beijing to assume office and happily recalled the history of cooperation between the CAIFC and SCO and Russia. She introduced to Mezentsev the recent new changes in the political and social lives of the Party and the state, as well as new trends in the economic development of China. She thought highly of the positive contributions that Mezentsev made to promote the Sino-Russian cooperation when he served as Vice President of Russian Federation Council and Governor of Irkutsk Oblast. Vice chairman Deng wished that the SCO would be constantly strengthened and developed with the unremitting efforts of Mezentsev. Mezentsev appreciated the great achievements China has made in the three decades of reform and opening up and he believed that the long history and wide prospects of the folk cooperation between China and Russia will be of great importance to promoting further development of the Sino-Russian comprehensive strategic partnership. He expressed his wish to further strengthen pragmatic cooperation and friendly exchanges with the CAIFC under the framework of the SCO. The two sides also exchanged views on the international and regional issues of mutual concern and cooperation in the fields of culture and art.
