Chairman Li Zhaoxing Leads Delegation of CAIFC to Visit India

From November 21st to 27th, Li Zhaoxing, chairman of the China Association for International Friendly Contact (CAIFC), led a delegation of the CAIFC to pay a friendly visit to India. During their stay in India, the delegation met with senior political leaders of India like Abdul Kalam, former Indian Prime Minister, Kalan Singh, leader of the Indian National Congress (INC), and Rahman Khan, minister of the Minority Affairs Office. Both sides had exchanged views on how to consolidate and develop Sino-Indian traditional friendship and strengthen the nongovernmental exchanges and cooperation of the two countries. Chairman Li shared the achievements of the 18th National People’s Congress with Indian counterparts. He also expressed that the CAIFC would further expand its friendly exchanges with Indian parties and political organizations such as the INC, reinforce its exchanges with Indian nongovernmental organizations, promote mutual understanding and trust, and help to pass on the brotherhood of India and China from generation to generation. The Indian representatives congratulated the success of the 18th National People’s Congress. They said that China and India are facing with many similar challenges and opportunities since both of them are developing countries, so they hoped to deepen cooperation with China in various areas, enhance collaboration with China when dealing with international and regional hotspot issues, and create better environment for the peaceful development of the two countries. In addition, the delegation has conducted extensive exchanges with Indian youths and celebrities from economy, media and think tanks, and tried to introduce China to them from various perspectives such as politics, culture, economy and education. It has fully exerted its influences as a nongovernmental organization and contributed a lot to Sino-Indian exchanges in certain areas. The delegation also held discussions with some overseas Chinese in India and thanked them for their long-term efforts on promoting the economic and cultural exchanges between China and India. Vice-chairman Li Xiaohua and deputy secretary-general Deng Wenqing of the CAIFC were accompanied during the visit.
